Doorstep Carols
Join us for carol singing at 7pm on Weds 14th Dec for around 45 minutes, accompanied by musicians from the Stockbridge & New Town Community Orchestra as part of the Doorstep Carols project. NB the main Doorstep Carols project nationwide begins at 6pm, but we are starting later as some of our team are involved with another project on Wednesday afternoons at the moment.
Music & lyrics
The Doorstep Carols project has set 15 well-known carols and we plan to perform them all in order. You can print lyrics sheets or carol scores from their website. We’ve also made a larger print carol lyrics Word document which you can edit to suit. There won’t be any rehearsal – just turn up and sing! Everyone is welcome to sing the melody, or harmonies if you know them.

Please dress warmly and be prepared for all weather types! Please bring a torch or lantern to see your lyrics. It will be an any-weather event (unless actively dangerous, eg. forecast lightning or gale-force winds). It won’t be socially-distanced unless rules change and require this, but we’ll be in a fairly large open area so if you feel you’d like to stand at the edge to make your own space, you should be able to do this. We’re expecting around 75 singers and 25 instrumentalists.
Friends/family
You are welcome to invite friends or family along to watch or sing along. We’ll be sharing posts on our social media platforms and also creating a poster to drop around some Leith organisations and businesses. If you’re able to help us distribute posters, please contact Kirsten@lovemusic.org.uk, letting her know how many you’d like and where you would plan to put them, so we avoid duplicates/wasted journeys.
Media
We’re planning to film and take photographs, and we might broadcast some of the carols live on our social media platforms. It’s also possible that there will be media coverage or filming or photos taken by audience members. By signing up, you agree to be included in these types of media.
Covid
Please do not attend in person if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 or any symptoms of another illness that might affect others in attendance. Please follow any current Scottish Government guidance on close contacts and self-isolation. There is no guarantee that following these rules will make meeting up and singing totally safe, and by attending you take full responsibility for your attendance and any subsequent illness which may occur from it.
